James Gunn Confirms Fans Will Get a Glimpse of Upcoming The Suicide Squad Movie at DC FanDome

James Gunn has revealed fans will get to see their first look at his upcoming The Suicide Squad movie, during the DC FanDome event this month.

Gunn, who directed the MCU’s Guardians of the Galaxy movies, confirmed he’d be taking a glimpse of the movie with him on Twitter earlier today.

The director also revealed the movie was 100% his creation, unlike the original Suicide Squad movie, who’s director David Ayer admitted Warner Bros had completely changed his movie.

“I can confirm #TheSuicideSquad is 100%, zero interference, no-holds-barred ME, &, again, I can’t wait for you guys to get a glimpse of it at #DCFanDome.”

There’s a lot of intrigue surrounding the movie, with many high profile actors cast, such as Idris Elba, Peter Capaldi, John Cena and Nathan Fillion, but no official roles have been announced for them as of yet.

Following the poor critical reception for 2016’s Suicide Squad, fans are hoping Gunn can improve on where the predecessor failed and give us all an entertaining movie.

The movie is set to release and will see Margot Robbie, Viola Davis, Joel Kinnaman and Jai Courtney reprise their roles from the first film.

  1. My only MINOR concern here is that he’ll go humorous like he did with GotG. Probably not, as the Squad has a completely different feel to it than the Guardians. Hopefully a few odd bits of humor, but that’s it. 🙂

I’m still going nuts trying to figure out who Cena will be playing. Given his past movie experience, Flag would be a natural guess, but we already know Joel Kinnaman is returning. Kinnamen did a bang up job there anyway, so it would be almost impossible to justify replacing him in that role.

Cena’s big and powerful enough to play Bane, Killer Croc or KGBeast. He could easily fall into Deadshot’s shoes also if Will Smith doesn’t return. Be a shame since I thought Smith did a fantastic job, but things happen in Hollywood. Rumor has it that he can be hard to work with too. Maybe that “amazing” is a clue, but I can’t think of any villains with the descriptor “amazing”. Spider-Man is the only one that comes to mind at all actually.

I wonder about Nathan Fillian also. His versatility as an actor is under-rated and I could see him in several roles.

Normally I’m more critical of Hollywood and the comic companies, but I personally didn’t think the earlier Suicide Squad was THAT bad. They even kept Harley tastefully sexy as opposed to putting Margot Robbie’s boobs on display for the cameras. The Joker was the only part I didn’t like in the movie. He had too easy a time keeping ahead of Waller and company, and he looked like some cliche’d stereotype of a street thug. Even just losing the grill would have been a vast improvement.

    1. Yeah I think, judging from Tom Taylor’s current Suicide Squad run, humour can work with the group, but you have to find the right balance.

I know Idris Elba was originally cast as Deadshot, but then they changed his role so that Will Smith has the opportunity to return to the role in a future movie if possible.

One of the most interesting things is not knowing who any of these incredible actors will be playing. There’s a sense of mystery surrounding it!

As for the 2016 movie, i thought it was alright. Average at best. I liked the main cast, but wasn’t a huge fan of The Joker and I also wasn’t a big fan of Enchantress if I’m completely honest.
