Writer: Tom Taylor
After what feels like forever, we finally got Tom Taylor’s newest DCeased tale, Dead Planet, today.
Set five years after the events of the original tale, Dead Planet sees the Justice League – who fled to Earth-2 during the original DCeased – return to answer a distress signal coming from Cyborg.
This review will have a number of spoilers, so here is a SPOILER ALERT so stop reading now if you don’t want to know what happens.
The book started off with the new Justice League returning to Earth, with Jonathan Kent’s Superman and Damian Wayne’s Batman leading the way. The group also consists of Cassie Sandsmark’s Wonder Woman, Dinah Lance’s Green Lantern, Green Arrow and Hawk Girl.
I had an awful feeling early on in the book that Oliver Queen wasn’t going to make it out of this first issue, but it still hurt to watch his demise at the hands of the zomibified original Wonder Woman.
The revelation that there may be a cure for the anti-life equation virus is a crazy one, but one that will make this next story an incredibly intriguing one.
Tom Taylor continues to write these characters perfectly. He has found the perfect blend between action, horror, humor and emotion. I laughed, gasped and cried reading this first issue and I can’t wait to see what is next.
