It’s been a couple of weeks since Ruby Rose announced her departure from The CW’s Batwoman and it was reported at the time that the show was looking to recast the role.
However, it’s recently been reported that The CW weren’t going to recast the character of Kate Kane, but cast an entirely new character to take on the Batwoman mantle, with the Decider confirming the news.
The rumors began when a leaked casting call made its way to Reddit looking for a character called Ryan Wilder. Wilder was described as “female, mid-late twenties and any ethnicity” and the casting call confirmed that “Ryan Wilder is about to become Batwoman.”
Warner Bros. had recently announced they were looking for a member of the LGBTQ community to replace Rose, implying Wilder will be a member herself.
The description continued that, “She’s likable, messy, a little goofy and untamed. She’s also nothing like Kate Kane, the woman who wore the batsuit before her.” While the name Ryan Wilder may be a cover up for the eventual character, it seems Batwoman will have a new leading lady sometime soon.
