Today marked the 4 year anniversary of Batman vs Superman being released in cinemas worldwide. What was one of the most highly anticipated movies in recent years, we finally got to see the two biggest superheroes of all time in Batman and Superman team up. Little did we know at the time, but the film was a major disappointment to many fans and earned a lot of criticism from said fans and critics alike. 4 years on and the film is still just as polarizing as it was when it first came out.
I’m a huge Superman fan. He’s easily my favourite superhero and with Batman also being one of my favourite heroes, I was ridiculously excited for this movie and while it wasn’t what I expected, I still found the movie highly enjoyable and can’t for the life of me understand why it gets as much hate as it does.
To celebrate the movie’s 4 year birthday, here’s some of my favourite things about the movie:
Ben Affleck’s Batman
Batman vs Superman gave us our first look at Ben Affleck as The Dark Knight and boy was I impressed. One of the most divisive aspects of BvS was Affleck’s Batman and while I can see why some fans wouldn’t connect with the portrayal, I absolutely adored it. In my opinion, Affleck’s Bruce Wayne felt like it was ripped write from the comic books and his Batsuits are still my absolute favourites.
That Batman Warehouse Fight Scene
Easily the best fight scene we’ve seen in any live action comic book adaptation, the warehouse fight scene towards the conclusion of the film is undoubtedly one of the films biggest positives. Affleck’s Batman fit the role perfectly and in the years since, no other comic book movie has come close to matching that fight choreography from BvS.
Wonder Woman’s Debut
Although the DCEU has struggled in its early days with critics, one thing they all seem to agree on is that Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman is one of the best things in the universe. It feels like Gadot was born to play the role and perfectly captures the very essence of Diana Prince. Her standalone Wonder Woman movie is still my favourite movie in the DCEU and I can’t wait to see Wonder Woman 84. That being said, BvS is where it all began for the Amazon and her entrance during the battle with Doomsday was incredible.
I just can’t stress enough how much I love this film and while there is definitely some negatives, I honestly feel like the positives definitely outweigh them and I hope that with time, many more comic book fans start to see what the rest of us have been seeing since day one.
