After really enjoying the recent Rise of Kylo Ren comic book, I thought I’d give the brand new Star Wars series, Bounty Hunters, a try. Focusing on a group of Bounty Hunters out for revenge on one of their own who betrayed them several years earlier, the book promises to show us a side of the Star Wars universe we’ve yet to see. With the Empire firmly at war with the Rebels, this book takes place shortly after Empire Strikes Back and shows us how the underworld is thriving in the midst of the war.

After a mission went wrong when Valance’s mentor, Nakano Lash, violently betrayed him and fellow bounty hunters, Bossk and the infamous Boba Fett, the group barely escaped with their lives. Years later Lash resurfaces under mysterious circumstances and the book follows each bounty hunter’s attempts in reaching Lash and finally having their revenge, while having to beat each other to the punch. The book was a little slow to stay with, but that’s to be expected with the start of a new story, introducing so many new characters. I’m thrilled to see Boba Fett will be a prominent figure in the book as you can never have enough Boba Fett content. The other characters introduced haven’t really had a chance to develop yet, so I’ll hold back any judgement on them until at least a couple more issues, but I love the design for Valance and think he has an incredibly unique look.

The story has the potential to be an interesting one and I’m looking forward to see where we go from here, but in an issue that didn’t move the needle all that much, there isn’t much else to say!
Thank you!
