Earlier today Tom King tweeted out a picture showing Batman embracing a heavily pregnant, but strangely still dressed as Catwoman, Selina Kyle. With Tom King’s Batman and Catwoman book coming up this could be a hint at what to expect from the book. However, King is also writing a story for Catwoman’s upcoming 80th anniversary special, so it could also be a teaser of things to come from his work in that instead.
I’m not really sure how I feel about Batman and Catwoman having a baby. It’s always nice to see change and could give way to a fresh take on the couple and their dynamic. What doesn’t make sense to me, though is that this is being done so close to the 5G initiative. With the 5G initiative due to age up all our favourite heroes and have them replaced by younger counterparts, the choice to give Batman and Catwoman a new baby, just to have them all ages up significantly very soon seems pretty odd to me, but I’ll refrain from passing too much judgement until we get to the 5G initiative and I can see how it all will play out.
The idea of Damian being an older brother is an interesting one and one that I expect Tom King to have a lot of fun exploring. To be fair, King built up Batman and Catwoman’s wedding for quite some time before pulling the rug from under us so maybe he’ll do something similar with this idea. I’m interested to see how it all plays out anyway and if anything this little teaser has created a bit more intrigue towards King’s Batman and Catwoman book than I initially had.
