One of my New Year’s Resolutions this year was to read more indie comics. I’ve only ever really read Marvel and DC books so I thought it was about time to give something else a try. My first endeavour into indie comics came in the form of Frightmare City.
Written by AC Turner, Frightmare City is a comic set in New York City. It features one short crime/horror story and is released once a month. I’ve never read a horror comic before, so I wasn’t sure what to expect heading into this, but I was pleasantly surprised by what I found. It’s clear that AC Turner is a huge horror fan and it shines through in his books.
The art is great and although the book features predominantly in black and white, the lack of colour works to it’s advantage. The fact each book is a short story, different from the last, means you don’t necessarily have to start all the way back at the first issue and can just pick the book up from any point you want which makes it incredibly accessible to new readers.
If you’re an avid horror comic reader or you’ve never read one before, but fancy a change, Frightmare City is a great book to pick up and I’d recommend it to anyone who’s looking for a brand new, fresh horror comic. You can find the book at https://www.frightmarecity.com so be sure to check it out, you won’t regret it!
